Sainfoin, sometimes referred to as "Holy Hay" or "Healthy Hay"- is an excellent alternative forage hay crop to Alfalfa. Though not as common as Alfalfa in Oregon, it is reknowned throughout the US as well as the world, as an excellent, and cost effective alternative to Alfalfa.
Sainfoin can be fed to virtually any livestock animal, including horses, cattle, sheep, and goats.
Sainfoin is a Non-GMO legume, which produces Non-GMO hay.
Worm Control
Sainfoin offers effective worm control by disrupting a worm or parasite's life cycle.
Excellent Protein Source
This protein-rich legume also provides exceptional nutritive value, with condensed tannins uniquely binding to proteins and protecting them in the rumen so they are digestible and absorbed. This results in rapid growth and early finishing for livestock, with excellent carcass grade.
Bloat-Free
The condensed tannins in Sainfoin prove advantageous in reducing enteric production of greenhouse gases and significantly lower the risk of bloat in ruminants-to virtually zero.
Low Sugar
Sainfoin is highly palatable, with voluntary consumption being 20%-30% higher than traditional hays which are fed to horses and livestock. Sainfoin is low in sugar and starch, so it can be considered for any horse, including those on strict diets.
