How does it work?
We transport all of our chicks which are to fly by Alaska Air Cargo to Portland Int'l Airport (PDX) and place them on individual flights based upon their destination. Alaska Air Cargo maintains the chicks in a heated and cooled cargo area, and all booked flights utilize a specialized heated and cooled, oxygenated cargo hold, where chicks are kept at just the right temperature all throughout their journey.
We guarantee 100% live delivery using this option, and most destinations will receive chicks at their destination airport overnight, regardless of their distance from PDX.
Once your chicks arrive at the destination airport, you will be contacted by a cargo agent to pick up your chick shipment from the cargo terminal.
How do I place an order to ship by Alaska Air Cargo?
To place your order, select your destination airport from the available list in checkout, or call our customer service team at 541-928-8928.
Orders of less than 75 chicks are subject to a $50.00 booking fee to cover the cost of air freight, but orders of 75 chicks or more ship free.
1 to 2 days before the hatch date for your order, we will send you an email with your AWB (air waybill) and flight itinerary, which shows the exact route that we have booked your order to fly on, including flight numbers and arrival and departure times. Also in this email will be a link with directions and information relating to your cargo terminal.
Plan to be at your destination cargo terminal within an hour of the shown arrival time for your flight number.
Upon arrival at the cargo terminal, show the cargo agent your air waybill and air waybill number from the email, so you can pick up your order.
From time to time, flights do get delayed or cancelled, due to inclement weather/mechanical failures. If this situation occurs, we will send you an updated flight intinerary, which we receive from Alaska Air Cargo any time an order is rebooked or bumped, due to flight delays/cancellations/changes.
Why should I consider using this option?
If you are within a state which we currently do not ship via USPS to, or want to have the peace of mind in knowing that your chicks will arrive in excellent condition, regardless of your location, everytime, you should consider using this option.
1) Unlike USPS shipments, which can take up to 3 days to arrive in some locations, Alaska Air Cargo orders arrive next day, after hatching and shipping to most locations. Temperature controlled handling and transport ensures that chicks are less likely to become too cold or too hot during transit, reducing the possibility of chicks arriving stressed.
2) All orders are only transported via air, once tendered to Alaska Air Cargo at PDX. No ground transportation is necessary.
3) Many flights are direct, from PDX to their destination, and all other destinations can be reached using just one connecting flight. This point to point shipping approach reduces shipping stress, as a result of less handling being necessary between shipping points.
4) Orders of 75 chicks or more ship for the same exact price as if the order was to be shipped by USPS Priority Mail. Orders of less than 75 chicks are subject to a $50.00 booking fee, to cover the air freight charge on a small order, which for guaranteed overnight shipping, is less than what most other hatcheries charge to send an order by USPS Priority Mail Express.
