MAREK'S DISEASE &
IBD (INFECTIOUS BURSAL DISEASE)
We vaccinate all chicks for Marek’s disease and IBD. These vaccines are approved for use in organic and conventional operations. We include this procedure within our cost-per-chick.
Most other hatcheries charge 15-20 cents per chick additionally for this.
This service is free and included on any chick order from us!
We can no longer offer unvaccinated chicks.
We have implemented this change in order to reduce labor costs and boost chick quality to it's highest possible level. Vaccination is most effective when chicks are vaccinated pre-hatch, while still in the shell.
Our vaccination device, vaccinates the chicks while they are still in the egg three days before hatch. This reduces overall stress to the chicks, as the needle does not touch the chick, instead the yolk sac is vaccinated, just before it is drawn up within the chick, as the chick begins moving into the hatching position.
This process is performed in an ultra sterile environment, utilizing cutting edge, top of the line technology.
In between each egg injection, the vaccination needles are completely sanitized using a closed and automated, sanitation system.
Additionally, all eggs are candled using an infrared system which determines whether eggs are viable or not.
Any infertile or non-viable eggs are removed from the system.
As a result of this, setting aside non vaccinated viable eggs is not possible, as once eggs enter this system, they cannot be removed, if they are deemed to contain a viable chick within the egg.
Rigorous testing and sanitizing procedures before and after each run day, ensure that this process results in the highest quality chicks possible.
COCCIDIOSIS (CHICKS ONLY)
In addition, we also offer a vaccine for Coccidiosis for an additional 20 cents per bird. Note: Coccidiosis vaccine is available for chicks only and can be selected as an add-on when ordering through our Web Store.
SALMONELLA ENTERITIDIS (CHICKS ONLY)
We also offer a vaccine for Salmonella enteritidis for an additional 15 cents per bird. Note: This vaccine is available for chicks only and can be selected as an add-on when ordering through our Web Store.
